When I was a kid I never really got Garfield’s hate for Mondays. For me it was more the Sunday, or specifically the Sunday evening as that meant having to get my homework done (yup, I was that kid who left things until the last minute).
So the last week or so I’ve been chipping away at completing page 20 of issue #15 of Lloyd and the Bear.
This has been a weird issue to put together as I usually break a book down starting with plot and then working out page blocks and just keep drilling down until I know the full structure of the book. Only at that point do I get on with the art but with having so much time updating the old books I have this one really planned out in my head. With that and really wanting to get on with actually doing some art I’ve been doing chunks of it at a time without knowing if I’m really going to be able to hit that final page with no excess story to cram in (or not enough).
But everything is looking to be on track! I admit there’s times I’ve shocked myself with thinking I didn’t have enough pages left but then realise I’ve mis-counted. Will I ever be working this way again on a book? Hopefully not!

This strips a reprint of an old one but it caught my eye as I did it last year at around the same time. Sadly, the very same things happened the other day when I did the vacuuming.
And hey, it’s bad luck to leave Christmas decorations out after a set time, right? Does this count?
So it looks like it’s not only Lloyd and the Bear that has gone through an update! With Urp! I decided to take him back from being on the excellent site Tapas and keep him in-house and allow for a bit more to happen on this page.
And what have I updated? Well, the background now has a rotating shade/lighting colour scheme going on (akin to Garfield if I’m remembering correctly) and I’ve also shrunk the size of the window.
Why with the window? I found the bigger size screen kept jutting out from whatever speech/thought bubble I had going on but I still really wanted something there. I’m a big fan of Star Trek The Next Generation and always loved scenes where they’d have characters talking away and you could see stars zooming away in the background. I thought that was awesome.
So yeah! Urp! is back! I love this guy paranoid miserable little guy! (What? He’s not me, who said that? Now I’m sad…)
